OUR STORY

Working with a team of respected theatre professionals, Amanda Lewis founded The Ottawa Children's Theatre in 2013. Amanda has directed and taught acting to children, youth and adults in theatres and schools throughout Ontario for over thirty years. Originally trained as an actor, she has a specialized background in movement, voice and language arts, and a particular interest in developing work that is by, for and about youth. She has a passion for drama that is inclusive and ensemble-based, and believes in the benefits of learning through theatre. In 2014, she received a Certificate in Theatre for Young Audiences with Complex Learning Disabilities from Rose Bruford College, England.

Amanda was the Executive Director of the Ottawa School of Speech & Drama (OSSD) where she created such projects as the Our Stories Project (acting for youth at risk); The Red Kite Project (performances for children on the autism spectrum); and The Children’s Republic (a co-production between OSSD & GCTC). In 2015, she co-produced the hit play Up to Low at Arts Court Theatre, and she was the dramaturg on the re-mounted production at the National Arts Centre in May 2018. Amanda is also the author of seven books for children and youth, ranging from non-fiction books to historical novels. www.amandawestlewis.com
