Instructors AL Connors and Emily Poulsen back in the OCT Studios.
It was so exciting to be back in our fabulous studios at Carleton Dominion Chalmers this weekend! All of our parents and students were amazingly patient as we sorted through the new health protocols. It felt like a celebration, a homecoming. We filled the studios with laughter and fun. It was surprisingly normal. And also, extraordinary.
Just as when we went online for the first time in April 2020, this shift back into the studios is not without its challenges. But it is incredibly rewarding, even with the limitations. As actors, we need to be able to take risks and try new things. But being in your bedroom in front of a Zoom screen doesn’t exactly lend itself to that opportunity. As instructor Cassandra Silver said, “I think it can be hard to step out of our comfort zone, to get a little goofy, when we’re sitting at home staring at a screen!”
It’s a learning curve for all of us. We’re discovering new ways to express character through our bodies and voices. I think we’re going to be majoring in eyebrow acting this fall! But we’re driven by a common goal and shared passion. We’re here, together, to express ourselves and our ideas through the magic art of theatre.
